Why Connection Cards Matter?

Making our "connection cards" irresistible.

Dear First Impressions Team,

Thank you for serving so faithfully each week. Whether you're welcoming guests in the parking lot, greeting at the doors, serving in the Brook Café, helping in the bookstore, or connecting with families throughout the campus, you are often the very first expression of Christ's love that someone experiences at Fallbrook.

As we continue to create a welcoming environment for every guest who walks through our doors, I want to share an important reminder about our Connection Card process.
For us as a church, a Connection Card helps us stay connected to guests after their visit. It gives us a way to answer questions, provide information, and help people take their next step.

But for a first-time guest, the experience feels very different.
They may be visiting a church for the first time in years. They may be nervous, uncertain, or simply trying to determine if Fallbrook is the right church home for them and their family.

Before they are ready to share their information, they often ask questions such as:
  • What does this church believe?
  • Who are the leaders?
  • Is there a place for my family here?
  • What programs are available?
  • Should I come back next Sunday?

This is why our Connection Card is so important.

Rather than presenting it as a way for the church to gather information, we want to present it as a resource that helps answer the questions guests already have.

Instead of saying:
"Fill out a Connection Card so we can follow up with you."
Try saying:
"If you're new today, we'd love to send you a welcome guide that shares more about who we are, what we believe, ways to get connected, and what your next step could be if you'd like to come back."

That simple shift changes everything.

The Connection Card is not about collecting data. It is about helping people discover whether Fallbrook can become their church family.

Our goal is not simply to get information from guests. Our goal is to serve them well, answer their questions, and make their next step easy.

As you interact with guests this weekend, remember that every smile, every conversation, every greeting, and every invitation to complete a Connection Card helps create an environment where people feel seen, valued, and welcomed.

Thank you for helping us make every guest feel at home before they ever become a member. Together, we are creating first impressions that lead to lasting connections.

With appreciation,
Anna Henix
